Kappas of Durham Foundation "FORE THE YOUTH GOLF TOURNAMENT" Flyer


OUR MISSION
To provide leadership in community education, mentorship, educational philanthropy and social causes to the benefit of the Durham community at large.
 
Why Support the Foundation?
The Foundation participates in community activities in the Durham community, but with emphasis on African-American male activities. These activities are demanding in their requirement for human and financial resources. Thus, the Foundation, recognizing the human need established programs to address these needs.
 
Beautillion Educational Assistance Program
The Annual Beautillion Militaire Leadership Training and Educational Assistance program has awarded almost $500,000 in educational assistance to deserving high school students from the Durham community for the past 22 years. This program received national recognition in "Vibe" Magazine – September 1999 issue.
 
The Big Brother/Little Brothers Mentoring Program
This initiative focuses on mentoring, tutoring and computer training at R.N. Harris Elementary School. The program is conducted every Thursday during the school year. This program increases the extent that African-American males are exposed to positive role models; enhance the meaningful involvement of the foundation in the education of African-American males to form a network of peer support for school success and positive social development.

FORMAT
There will be five ability-based flights for male foursomes and one flight for female foursomes. Play will follow a four person superball format where each person hits off the tee and the best shot is selected. Then each player hits from that position and the best shot is selected. This procedure is followed until the ball is holed.
 
AWARDS AND PRIZES
Awards and prizes will be presented to the winning teams and to individuals for the best shots on selected holes – longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. Also, a raffle will be held for valuable prizes.

Summer Internships

1. "O" The Oprah Magazine is looking to hire fall interns in the Fashion and Style Departments. Candidates must be highly organized, detail-oriented and be able to juggle multiple tasks at once. Prior internship experience graduates who are available to start immediately, full-time from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. , 5 days a week. 3. The Women's Technology Program at MIT is a 4-week summer residence program to introduce high school girls to electrical engineering and computer science. If you know a girl who is currently a high school junior who demonstrates math and science ability and a n interest in finding out about EECS, please e ncourage her to visit our website for more information and for an application form Our classes are taught in a supportiv e environment by a staff of women MIT PhD candidates and undergraduates.

The full-time academic program includes hands-on experiments and team-based projects in computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics. No prior experience in computer programming, physics, or electrical engineering is expected, but applicants typically have strong academic records, especially in math and science.

4. HARVARD'S TUITION ANNOUNCEMENT - Harvard is offering free tuition for students that have a family income below $40,000. If you are a mentor or have nieces and nephews who might be interested, please give them this information. Fellowship in Arts & Culture Management: Preparing for Diverse Leadership in Chicago 's Arts and Culture Institutions

The Chicago Community Trust is pleased to announce "Fellowship in Arts & Culture Management: Preparing for Diverse Leadership in Chicago 's Arts and Culture Institutions" for 2007-2009, a program designed to increase diversity at middle and senior management levels of cultural institutions in the Chicago area.
